By downloading or using Culina you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. Culina is operated by Protea Studios (Pty) Ltd, Cape Town, South Africa.
1. The Service
Culina is an iOS application that uses artificial intelligence to identify food ingredients via your device camera and generate personalised recipes and dietary suggestions. All AI processing is performed by Google Gemini via a Cloudflare Worker proxy. Images are processed and immediately discarded — they are never stored.
2. Subscription and Billing
Culina requires an active subscription to access all features. A 7-day free trial is available for new subscribers on both plans.
- Monthly plan: $2.99 USD per month
- Annual plan: $29.99 USD per year (saving approximately 16%)
Payment is charged to your Apple ID at the end of the free trial period. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. To manage or cancel your subscription go to: iPhone Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Culina.
3. AI-Generated Content — Important Disclaimer
All recipes, ingredient identifications, and nutritionist suggestions in Culina are generated by artificial intelligence (Google Gemini). This content is provided for informational and entertainment purposes only. It is not professional nutritional, dietary, or medical advice.
You should always:
- Verify all identified ingredients before cooking with them
- Check all recipes carefully for allergens relevant to your dietary needs and health conditions
- Consult a qualified medical or dietary professional for any specific health-related dietary needs
Protea Studios (Pty) Ltd accepts no liability for any harm, illness, allergic reaction, or other outcome arising from acting on AI-generated content in this app.
4. Acceptable Use
You may use Culina for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to copy any part of the app
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to circumvent subscription requirements
- Use automated means to access or abuse the AI features
5. Intellectual Property
The Culina app, its name, design, and branding are owned by Protea Studios (Pty) Ltd. AI-generated recipes are created fresh for each session and are not proprietary content owned by Protea Studios (Pty) Ltd or by the user.
6. Privacy
Your use of Culina is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
7. Availability and Changes
We aim to keep Culina available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, modify, or discontinue features at any time. We will give reasonable notice of any material changes where possible.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Protea Studios (Pty) Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of Culina, including but not limited to any harm resulting from following AI-generated recipes or nutritional suggestions, or from any interruption or discontinuation of the service.
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Protea Studios (Pty) Ltd from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your violation of these Terms or your misuse of the app.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last Updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of Culina shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.
